Deep-Well Telemetry: How the Dragino PS-LB-I Saves You from a $20k Pump Cavitation Disaster

Don't burn out your deep-well pumps. Connect a Dragino PS-LB-I LoRaWAN pressure transmitter for real-time drawdown monitoring and automatic cavitation protection.

Hey guys. Let's talk about the absolute joy of deep-well maintenance. And by joy, I mean the sudden, heart-stopping realization that your pump has been sucking dry air and sand for the last six hours, turning a $20,000 piece of precision machinery into a glorified agricultural paperweight. (Yes, my hypothetical 14-year-old kid is cringing at my dramatic writing style right now. I don't care, it's a real issue.)

If your well is the straw, and the aquifer is a giant milkshake, dropping a pump in without tracking the water level is like drinking a milkshake through a straw with a hole in it. You're going to get a lot of noise, no results, and a massive headache. Cool? Definitely not.

No worries, though. We have an awesome solution. We don't use rock-and-string, and we don't buy expensive closed subscription networks. Instead, we run a Dragino PS-LB-I LoRaWAN node connected directly to a heavy-duty submersible pressure sensor.

[Switches to serious face]

Hydrostatic Pressure Done Right

The hardware setup is sweet and simple. We drop a submersible stainless-steel pressure transducer deep down the well casing, positioned just above the pump intake. This transducer measures the hydrostatic pressure of the water column sitting on top of it. More water means more pressure.

The transducer sends a standard analog current (typically 4-20mA) up the cable to the surface, where it wires into a Dragino PS-LB-I LoRaWAN Pressure Sensor Node. The Dragino node reads the analog signal, packages it up, and shoots it over LoRaWAN.

Our Simply Mobility platform decodes the raw signal, calculates the water column height in feet, and logs it to your dashboard. The best part? If the level drops below the dynamic safety limit, our software triggers a control webhook to shut down the pump instantly. That is a $20,000 save from a simple, connected setup.
